California is a huge state that I am so lucky to have lived in my whole life. Just like any state, it has its own unique culture that everyone around the world can experience. I am so fortunate that I’ve been able to travel all across California and discover new places. Every California city is different, which I think is a really cool characteristic for the state to have. From its northern half to its southern half, you will find so many different spots to explore. Starting up north and ending down south, here are five of my favorites:
Sonoma is located in Napa which is about an hour and a half west of Sacramento. Napa is the wine and food capital of California and such a great location for weekend trips. Sonoma is a small town filled with boutique shops, amazing restaurants and breathtaking vineyards and wineries. If you’re looking for a perfect picnic spot or just somewhere to gaze at beautiful scenery, Sonoma is the place to go.
This beachy vacation spot is located near Santa Cruz. Capitola is known for its colorful and quaint villas along the beach and the famous pizza joint, Pizza My Heart. Grab a slice and a Pizza My Heart t-shirt before relaxing on the beach. The weather in Capitola is perfect and sunny during the summertime. Cruise around the town and check out the boutiques! There are so many shops around that sell anything that you can possibly think of. Jewelry, clothing, surfboards, home décor, shoes and more can be found in the shops of Capitola. Have dinner on the beach and enjoy watching the sunset!
3. San Francisco
San Francisco becomes irresistible once you see the Golden Gate Bridge and visit Ghirardelli Square. These two landmarks are my favorite parts of the city. I’m a sucker for chocolate, so a visit to Ghirardelli Square makes me more than happy. After grabbing a milkshake there, head on over to one of many lookouts to take some photos in front of the Golden Gate Bridge!
Lights, camera, action! Hollywood is the movie and entertainment capital of the world! There is so much to do in the city from taking double decker bus tours to strolling down the walk of fame. The walk of fame stretches several blocks and covers both sides of the street. Here, a pink star lays on each tile that has the name of someone who made a great impact to the entertainment industry. You can find Elvis Presley, Kermit the Frog, Simon Cowell and so many more talented people. While finding some names, check out the Grauman’s Chinese Theatre where stars have left their foot and hand prints in cement!
5. Del Mar
This is a beautiful city in San Diego. Known for its horse races and annual summertime fair, Del Mar attracts lots of visitors. It also sits right near the ocean, so it holds lots of nice and relaxing beaches. There are lots of places to hike along the beach as well as places to get some amazing food. Grab a beach towel and a good book and relax on the sunny beaches of Del Mar.
Next time you’re in California, make sure to visit these amazing places and check them off your bucket list! What is your favorite California city?
